Transactional Anchoring
Exit Slideshow

Summary

Transactional anchoring is the use of an initial number or reference point to shape judgments and choices in exchanges, deals, and pricing. The first figure seen becomes a mental anchor that people adjust from, usually not enough. It works in negotiations, retail pricing, fundraising, and any setting where numbers set expectations. Knowing how anchors form helps you design fair offers and spot when you are being steered by a reference that does not reflect true value.
